Joanna Christie joins Equus

The Daily Mail reports that Joanna Christie has been chosen by Dan to play his girlfriend in Equus
This is the young woman chosen by Daniel Radcliffe to be his girlfriend - on stage, that is. The Harry Potter star makes his West End theatre debut in Peter Shaffer's play Equus in February and Joanna Christie will play the teenage girl with whom his character Alan Strang — a groomsman who has blinded six horses — has a torrid fling. The young lovers have a steamy sex scene together.
Director Thea Sharrock and producers David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers auditioned 308 young actresses for the part of Jill, the stable-girl. The list was narrowed to six, each taking turns to perform scenes on stage with Daniel in a secret session one lunchtime at the Prince Of Wales Theatre, normally home to Mamma Mia! Joanna, 24, from Holmfirth in West Yorkshire (Last Of The Summer Wine country), was called back four times to test with Daniel in some of the play's most intimate scenes. Finally, she was chosen and contracts were signed on Wednesday.
'It was the chemistry between them,' observed Mr Pugh, one of the producers of Equus, which will begin performances at the Gielgud Theatre on February 16, with a first night on February 27. Mr Pugh joked: 'She was the one Daniel fancied the most, and that swung it for us.' Award-winning actor Richard Griffiths leads the cast with Daniel.
Griffiths will play the psychiatrist who explores why the troubled youth carried out the seemingly senseless acts of cruelty on the horses, although it turns out it's the shrink who is more in need of healing. Jenny Agutter, who played Jill in the screen version of Equus 30 years ago, will also be in the drama, this time playing a magistrate.
At least Joanna has someone to turn to for advice on how to tackle the role. The young actress recently returned from travelling with a theatrical troupe around India for a year and has done several plays since she graduated from Mountview theatre school in North London. One of her earliest performances was in Immaculate Conceit, with the National Youth Theatre. Those who have worked with her describe her as a 'very charismatic free spirit'.

AFI Awards soundbytes
They even got a genuine international star. Past awards ceremonies I've been to have included such luminaries as Malcolm In The Middle himself, and the President from 24. But this event featured Daniel Radcliffe. That is, Harry Potter. I mean, HARRY POTTER. I.e. HARRY POTTER!!!!! We had the great luck to arrive shortly after him, meaning that we could briefly pretend that the frenzied cheering was for us. And, AND, I was two places behind him in the urinal queue. That's right, a mere metre away. Sorry to get all fanboi on you, but c'mon – Harry Potter. I didn't actually say hello, although I'm sure he's a huge fan of my work. Strangely, men say nothing whatsoever in urinal queues. I guess right before someone exposes themselves is probably not a good time to tell them you love their work. -- Dominic Knight, SMH

"I was obsessed with Harry Potter when I was 10, then I ended up working with him. You'd think he (Radcliffe) would have an ego, but he's the nicest person," -- Christian Byers

Harry Potter falls for Melbourne
posted by Jas, 12/05/06
Dan is now in Melbourne to present two awards at AFI Awards on Thursday night, he said he loves Melbourne and talked a little bit about December Boys
Daniel Radcliffe, known to the young and young at heart as Harry Potter, has fallen in love. But the object of the English star's affections is not a girl -- it's Melbourne. "We just came here for a holiday a few years ago and fell in love with the place," Radcliffe, 17, said yesterday. "We went to Sydney and Melbourne, and preferred Melbourne -- although that won't go down well with Sydney-ites," he laughed.
Radcliffe, 17, is in Melbourne to present two awards at the Australian film industry's night of nights tomorrow, the L'Oreal Paris AFI Awards. Radcliffe was welcomed into the Australian industry late last year when he spent six weeks making the film December Boys on location in Adelaide and Kangaroo Island. Due for release early next year, December Boys is set in 1960s Australia, and tells the story of four orphaned boys who travel to the seaside and compete to be the most "adoptable". With not a wizard or a quidditch match in sight, it is Radcliffe's first post-Potter film, and he knows there is a lot riding on it.
"It does feel like a big deal and I am nervous about how it's going to be received, and I'm nervous about what people are going to say, but that's what happens," he said. "I think people will like it and the one thing they genuinely can't say is that I'm playing Harry, 'cos it's very different."

Interview with Dan on Xpose

Xpose magazine's Special 2006 edition has an interview with Dan and Rupert, here's a snippet of Dan's interview
For actor Daniel Radcliffe, there's an odd moment to look forward to in the next year. Sometime next summer, JK Rowling's final Harry Potter book will be released, bringing the story of the teenage wizard to a close in one medium, while he'll be hard at work on the penultimate movie in the sequence. After six years, almost a third of his life, the end is in sight... but fortunately, he won't be left without work, to judge by the number of projects he's been cramming into the gaps between production of the Potter movies.
Next year, he'll be seen as poet Rudyard Kipling's son Jack in an ITV one-off, My Boy Jack, about the tragic events of the First World War. He's sent himself up, along with a string of other celebrities as wide-ranging as Ian McKellen, David Bowie and Robert De Niro in the second season of Ricky Gervais' Extras. On-stage, he's about to prove that he's all-grown up as he bares all in a revival of the chilling play Equus… and in the summer, he played Harry Potter for the Party at the Palace marking the Queen's 80th birthday.
"I wasn't actually there on the day," Radcliffe tells us of his contribution to the day's fun, which saw Harry joining in the hunt for the Queen's stolen handbag, taken by the villainous Captain Hook in a series crossing sequence of vignettes involving children's characters from dozens of series and classic books. "I was out of the country, but I filmed all the stuff for it beforehand. We thought we had rushed days for Harry Potter, but for this it was like high speed, we got the whole thing in half an hour. It was unbelievably fast but I quite like filming in chaos; I think you get some of the best results when everyone's slightly under pressure. Not that I would encourage any kind of tyranny on a film set to try and make you feel under pressure, but I think it sometimes happens that right at the end of the day, when you've got 15 minutes before you have to leave, you get your best performance."
