"So off we went to the premiere and I met Daniel Radcliffe and he said, 'Shane Warne! You've got 708 Test wickets! You're a legend'. And I went, 'Nice to meet you, mate, these are my kids'. So then he pulls out a Wisden and says, 'You wouldn't sign this?' I thought, 'This is hilarious'. So I pulled out my ticket and said, 'Okay, mate, but you will have to sign this.' Dan's upcoming movie made for television, My Boy Jack was shot at Clermont College in Rathnew last week but Dan was not spotted on the set.

A shroud of secrecy was surrounded the grounds of Clermont College in Rathnew on Monday as they were used for a new ITV film based on the true story of Rudyard Kipling. A tight net of security ensured that the set was completely closed off to members of the public for the duration of the days filming. Stars playing major roles in My Boy Jack' include Harry Potter' star Daniel Radcliffe and former Sex and the City' temptress Kim Cattrall. Despite a number of fans keeping a keen eye out for either a glimpse of Daniel or Kim, there was still no sign of either of them by the time filming wrapped up later that evening.

An interview with Dan, Rupert and Emma from the Deccan Herald. Dan talked a little bit about December Boys and My Boy Jack

Yes, December Boys is about four boys who grew up in a Catholic orphanage in the outback of Australia and who, by a generous donation to the orphanage, were all sent on holiday for their birthday month, which is December, hence why they are the 'December Boys'. And they all have various rites of passage stories while they are away. And I think it's a really sweet, genuinely warm and heartfelt film. As you say, there were similar themes. The tally is now up to three orphans - Harry, David and Maps. But it is a very, very different film. And he's a very different character from Harry because Maps is much more restrained than Harry. Harry lets a lot out, and Maps doesn't at all.

And later in the year, I'm doing My Boy Jack, which is about Rudyard Kipling and his son who wanted to go and was sent to war despite having failed numerous army medical test because his eyesight was so bad. It's a very, very sad story. But it's a beautiful, beautiful script written by David Haig, who is also playing Rudyard Kipling, so, very exciting. Yes.

Art Brut Meets Harry Potter

Art Brut publicist Karen Ruttner tells the story of how the band met Dan backstage at the taping of Conan O'Brien show, there's a photo too.

Daniel Radcliffe must know a little something about "meta"; he is, after all, Harry Potter (far moreso than those trippy drawings on the front of the books). So it's fitting that Art Brut-- the most meta of the bands-- count Mr. PotterRadcliffe as a fan. According to Art Brut publicist Karen Ruttner, who snapped the above photo, Dan hunted down Eddie Argos and the lads at a July 11 taping of the Conan O'Brien variety program.

Ruttner said, "Just as we were sitting in the green room talking about how much we wanted to meet Harry Potter, some guy comes in and goes, 'Hey, Daniel Radcliffe wants to come in and meet you guys.' He's a big fan. Even told Conan on the couch that they were the best thing hed seen at Reading two years ago. Made 'em sign a copy of their CD and after the photo was like, 'now I finally feel like I'm in a band!'"

MovieVine reports that Joseph Fiennes, Stuart Townsend and Naomi Watts have joined the cast of the 6th Harry Potter movie Half-Blood Prince. Shooting starts in September and the movie is scheduled for release in late November 2008. Dan, Rupert and Emma will reprise their roles.

In August, Mr. Radcliffe heads off to Ireland for the television film "My Boy Jack," in which he plays Rudyard Kipling's 17-year-old son, gone missing in the Great War. (It airs in November.) In September, he'll be back on the big screen in "December Boys," a tale of four orphans set in Australia. (It wrapped in January 2006.) These projects may bring some surprises. But last winter, Mr. Radcliffe wrong-footed the world in what was for all intents and purposes his debut as a stage actor. The play was Peter Shaffer's "Equus,"

"Our generous tabloids!" Mr. Radcliffe says. One of the headlines greeting the announcement of the project read, "Crash! The Sound of a Career Coming to a Grinding Halt." "The papers always make things up. But the thing I can't stand is lazy journalism. They'd heard that I would be naked, that I would smoke and swear. But they made a pretty fast U-turn once the play opened."

In "Order of the Phoenix," Mr. Radcliffe displays much of the coiled, guarded charisma he went on to show the London audience in "Equus," palpably seething without the crude signifiers of a knitted brow or a clenched jaw. "I've worked hard on reining in emotion," Mr. Radcliffe remarks. "I've always aimed for showing things more subtly." He prizes the wisdom handed down to him by Mr. Griffiths at the actors' hangout Joe Allen one night after "Equus." "Richard said, 'I'm going to tell you something Lee Marvin told me, which Spencer Tracy told him. Never let the camera find you not thinking!' If the thoughts are there, and they're genuine and truthful, the camera will find them." "Gary Oldman can do anything," Mr. Radcliffe says. "I'm quietly ambitious to develop that kind of range." Sydney Morning Herald has posted their interview with Dan where he talked about OOTP, Equus and filming December Boys in Melbourne

"This is definitely Daniel's first screen romance and he handled it very well," Palmer says. "He's younger than me, but so mature and he's so experienced as an actor and I could get tips off him." Teen girls went mad on the streets of Melbourne whenever Radcliffe showed his face during filming. "We were near a high school and there were streams, waves of girls running down the street," Palmer says. "There were like, 100 girls banging on the windows and he was like, 'Hi,' and he signed all the autographs and stayed half an hour." Radcliffe: "It was bizarre. If only Teresa was running after me, then I'd be really happy. No, Teresa's beautiful but I don't want to start any rumours. Daniel Radcliffe claims the Harry Potter cast and crew are forever encouraging him to become a stand-up because of the gags he cracks between takes. But he says: 'I could never do stand-up because it's that thing of having to get up on stage, and, out of every ten jokes you tell, nine of them have to get a really good response. Hollywood Reporter talks about keeping the magic in Harry Potter franchise and mentions Dan

Producer David Heyman, who first brought the books to the studio's attention, also has performed a formidable feat. He's managed to keep a sprawling cast together for more than five films and appears on track to have everyone back for numbers six and seven. As a result, moviegoers have watched as the principal young actors -- Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint -- have grown into their roles.

But Radcliffe, who was 11 when he was cast in the first "Potter" movie and who turns 18 this month, will have done them both one better: His entire adolescence has been captured on film through the growth of one character. Certainly, Warners had no way to ensure when the series began that its central actor would not turn into a rebellious teen, who at some point would insist on throwing off Harry's cloak of invisibility.

Radcliffe is starting to experiment with a more adult persona: Witness his turn onstage in "Equus" and the leather-boy poses he strikes in the current Details magazine. Still, as he's made the publicity rounds for the new film, the actor comes across as a politely accommodating young man who's committed to the remaining two films. If all goes as planned, then, the "Potter" movies will have escaped the curse of most franchises, remaining true to their original inspiration without ever running off the tracks.

And so the Harry Potter saga continues. It's essentially deeply conservative, with battles, and crashes, and giants and explosions and is shaping up to be an extraordinary real-time experiment for Daniel Radcliffe. Plenty of young actors complain that they did their growing up in public. For Radcliffe that is literally true. When the saga is finally complete, its sheer bulk will be impressive, and we will gasp at Radcliffe's remarkable stamina and maturity in the role: a testing experience for any actor, but one that he has managed without going obviously mad, and with enough wit to send himself up on Ricky Gervais's TV comedy Extras. -- The Guardian

And at the end of one of the lessons he gets his first kiss with fellow student Cho Chang. Daniel Radcliffe, as Harry, plays this key moment with suitable tenderness and his overall performance is strong. Apparently his run of "Equus" on the London stage was no fluke — the kid shows genuine depth here, nicely delineating both Harry's teenage angst and augmenting it with his understandable fears of the growing power of What's-His-Name, that murderous wizard who over the last few films has been working to achieve corporeal form. -- The State

As Harry gets older and more conflicted, and Daniel Radcliffe matures into a fine young actor upon whose shoulders falls the tricky task of giving expression to Harry's wounded inner psyche — which Radcliffe handles very nicely here — Harry's isolation, even among his closest Hogwarts friends, is more poignant, and more disturbing, than ever. Radcliffe pulls the performance off quite well, giving Harry an intensity that is fitting for someone who has been through as much as he has. In one excellent sequence, Harry literally screams to Dumbledore "Look at me!" and in those words the desperation of someone looking for approval and acceptance from a father figure comes through in a big way. -- IGN

All the principles return for this one, plus a few more who make interesting additions. Daniel Radcliffe returns as Harry Potter and he really takes the character leaps and bounds beyond the other installments this time around. We really get the sense of his isolation and how emotionally tortured he was. I hate to say this because Radcliffe is great at playing Potter, but I'm worried that this kid will be on the SURREAL LIFE series in a couple of years. Maybe it's just me, but when I see him, I'm pretty sure he'll always be Harry Potter to me. Hopefully I'll be wrong! -- Jo-Blo

Since the first "Harry Potter" film was released in 2001, audiences around the world have had the great pleasure of watching Radcliffe and his two young co-stars, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, grow up before their eyes. AICN has finally posted their interview with Dan.

I have to say that Radcliffe came across as possibly the nicest kid in the universe. I walked into this interview and he stood right up, rushed to greet me. "How are you? Do you want a coke or something?" I was like, "Um, no thanks, man…" "How about a diet coke? Water?" "Thanks, man, but I'm fully hydrated." "Really, we're not paying for it, so you can have one if you want."

I like the choices he's making outside of the Potter universe. He's pretty tied to the character of Harry Potter and will have a steep road to climb to prove himself beyond this series. But he has the drive, obviously, and the desire to further his craft. Add into that a genuinely humble and kind personality and he stands a good chance to have a life after Potter. Full interview

Daniel Radcliffe, getting better by the film, does this with conviction, ably backed as usual by Emma Watson as an increasingly glamorous Hermione and Rupert Grint as Ron. But their characters are given less room than usual to grow and shine, and despite its relatively short running time, the film occasionally goes through the motions of telling a story rather than actually doing so. Superstardom isn't helping Daniel Radcliffe to mimic Harry Potter's success with girls in the forthcoming film. Speaking to People at the Potter premiere, he explained how female fans were kissing his new waxwork at Madame Tussauds. "That's great and all, but I really am single," he said, a little too desperately. "Tell them to come and get a taste of the real deal." But it's an invitation co-star Emma Watson won't be taking him up on. "Oh no," she said "I've known him far too long. He's more like a brother to me." Aha, that old chestnut. -- Times Online

Daniel Radcliffe, star of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, says he relishes his heart-throb status. "I can't complain," Radcliffe said. "It's rather wonderful, really." Speaking of his first screen clinch, with Katie Leung, who plays Cho Chang, he said: "She's a very good kisser." Katie Leung also says kissing Daniel was a "lovely" experience. Katie said: "It was very lovely. It took about 30 takes and it was quite graphic. I was nervous beforehand but it was lovely. Daniel was definitely a great kisser and a real gentleman. I'd give him 11 out of 10." And Daniel was quick to return the compliment, saying: "She gave me eleven? Oh, she gets eleven too. Wonderful, it looks like we're both great kissers."

Despite crowds of adoring girls at the premiere Daniel quickly spotted his favourite fan. He joked: "There's one particularly beautiful redhead over there. I'm looking forward to getting to know her." -- NZ Herald

Radcliffe said Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which opens worldwide next week, is darker but the 17-year-old said he enjoyed the challenge. "That's what makes them more exciting for me as an actor," Radcliffe said. "That's a lot more fun to do than just the action side of things. While there's not actually direct comedy, there's some really heartfelt emotion." -- CBC

As the light started to fade and the publicists started rushing their charges through to the cinema, we made the big mistake of mentioning to Radcliffe that we'd spotted Shane Warne earlier. Looking handsome in a navy suit, Daniel Radcliffe admitted: "I'm very nervous for two reasons. Number one, I've just seen John Simm and he's brilliant, and number two, Shane Warne is here. "I'm just going to be quoting his stats back at him because I know all of them." And we thought Quidditch was Harry's number one game...So, what would Dan do if he were Harry Potter for real for a day? "I'd see if I could outrun trains," he told us. Radcliffe adds a new dimension to Potter this time round with a highly charged performance that is, for want of a better word, his most 'adult' to date. The young star incorporates a variety of subtle un-niceties to his role that sees him questioning all his beliefs and trust in others. Just as every young boy eventually discovers that there really isn't a Father Christmas, Harry Potter becomes increasingly aware that everything is not as it seems and that even good people have bad traits. Including himself.

The Order of the Phoenix' has enough twists and turns to keep both adults and children glued to screen for the duration. Which is impressive considering its running time of 138 minutes. It's darker and less sweet than its predecessors but Harry Potter is growing up and so are his fans. And, yes, the rumours are indeed true – Potter does have a delightful on-screen kiss too. Harry Potter fans can enjoy an exclusive 'owls' eye view of the London premiere of 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' without even leaving their armchair with Radisson Edwardian's Leicester Square Web cam. The new 'eye in the sky' web cam installed on the roof of the 5-star Radisson Edwardian Hampshire Hotel is ideally positioned to catch all the pre-premiere action. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, aka Harry, Ron and Hermione, are set to arrive on the red carpet for the film's premiere at the Odeon cinema in Leicester Square.
