Harry Potter invited to SA
posted by Jas, 05/29/07
Dan has been invited to Adelaide premiere of December Boys but no word if he will go.

He's been invited . . . but whether Daniel Radcliffe will turn up is an altogether different prospect. The lad known to the world as Harry Potter, has been sent an invitation for the Adelaide premiere of his film December Boys, however organisers are unsure whether the English film star's schedule will allow him to return to South Australia.

The film, centring on the fate of four orphans competing to be the most "adoptable", was shot on Kangaroo Island at the end of 2005. In fact two of the film's stars may not be present for the premiere. Adelaide actress Teresa Palmer is in Los Angeles scouting for work. Meanwhile, there are now only 49 sleeps until the final book - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - is released. The seventh and final book in JK Rowling's bestselling series is scheduled for release on July 21.

First of all my apologies for the slow updates, I've been focusing my attention and time to certain Rockers and Pirates in the past couple of months. Have been extremely busy with those two but the good news is both the new Linkin Park album and Pirates 3 are out and Dan will have me to himself once the promo for OOTP goes into full swing sometime in mid-June. I hope nothing much happens next week because I will be on vacation for a week. Anyway, back to business, UHP has pics of OOTP theater posters in 3D.

    On Set With Harry Potter
    posted by Jas, 05/16/07
IGN has part one of their interview with Dan, Rupert and Emma where they talked about the Order of the Phoenix

We spoke with Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Potter, about the darkness that informs this film and in particular how Harry is changing. "He is incredibly angry all the time. We did a scene the other day where he confesses to Sirius about how he actually feels, how he feels angry constantly and how he thinks he is possibly turning into a bad person. There's a lot going on inside his head and I think that, for me as an actor, it makes it more interesting to do and I think for an audience it becomes a more charismatic character to watch," Radcliffe said.

    Radcliffe: Phoenix Darker, Complex

Scifi Wire has an interview with Dan where he talked about Order of the Phoenix

Daniel Radcliffe, star of the upcoming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, told SCI FI Wire that the fifth film in the series is bigger and more complex than its predecessors. "On an emotional level there's much bigger stuff than I had to do in the fourth film, like obviously what happens to [a key character] and Harry's reaction to that," Radcliffe, 17, said in an interview during a break in filming last September at Leavesden Studios outside London.

"There's no major physical action set pieces, other than, of course, the final standoff between Voldemort and Harry and Harry and Voldemort and all the Death Eaters and the Order of the Phoenix," Radcliffe said. "That's going to be pretty spectacular, I think." Radcliffe added: "Harry goes through what every teenager goes through, in a way. He feels angry. And, of course, Harry's feelings are exacerbated by the fact that he has had all of these troubles in his life, and ... [he] has had people trying to kill him at numerous times, really."

Harry turns to Sirius Black (Gary Oldman), worried that he may be turning into a bad person himself. "There's a lot going on inside of his head, and I think that, for me as an actor, that makes him more interesting to do," Radcliffe said. "And I think, for an audience, he becomes a more charismatic sort of character to watch, because he is so of two different sides."

Orlando mentioned Dan in an interview recently.

"Is there a play that I can get off the ground?" he asks. "I don't want to be thrust out into London's West End and feel like my balls are left hanging. At the same time, it would be great to do a play in the West End and be part of a company. I did see Equus recently and thought Daniel Radcliffe [the Harry Potter star] did a great job. It was really a brave choice. It made me think."

Director David Yates and Dan talk about the Order of the Phoenix

"It's a very intense scene," says Radcliffe during a break in filming the sequence, part of the climax to "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," which premieres July 11. "Harry's so out of his depth, he's emotionally pretty much destroyed by this point and given up all hope." Radcliffe is in no doubt as to the subtext. "We're the French Resistance," he explains of Dumbledore's Army, "and Voldemort and the Death Eaters are the Nazis. Obviously, in a magical context." Not that his analogies end there. "Harry's like a Vietnam veteran," he says. "He's seen awful things and come back into a society that's rejected him. That's the main parallel I've been drawing on." Fudge, meanwhile, he equates to Britain's prime minister, Tony Blair. "Dan's absolutely right," says Yates several months later in his Soho office. "What Fudge does is he spins everything all the time. He's a great manipulator of information, and there is a bit of Blair about Fudge."

By all accounts, Yates has also managed to wrestle the best performance from Radcliffe thus far. "I'm ready to be pushed and challenged," says Radcliffe, who this year made his London stage debut in "Equus" to good reviews. "The other directors could have pushed and challenged, and did, but I wasn't ready. With David, I think I'm at a stage where I can more competently give him what he wants out of a scene and with more detail."

Working with the cream of the British acting establishment across the films has certainly been beneficial. During one particularly emotional scene in this installment, Radcliffe recalls Oldman saying to him: " 'Dan, do you mind if I do something sort of physical with you before we start?' I was like, 'No, no,' assuming he meant giving me a hug. He came up to me and grabbed me and shook me really, really hard. As he went away, he kept eye contact. And tears started to form up. I had no idea how it happened, but it worked."

Radcliffe has already committed to play Harry for the final two films in the series. For Yates too this isn't the end, having signed on for the next: "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince." "I know Alfonso and Mike, when they came out, they were kind of shredded, but I've come out feeling invigorated," Yates says. "And I don't think I'm quite done with this world yet. These can be great films about childhood. The next one's full of sexual politics, and the kids are getting better as actors, and I want to push them even more. This one's quite lyrical and intense. The next one is more fun." He grins. "I've had more fun in the last two years than I've had making anything. The whole thing's slightly addictive. It's difficult to let go." Full interview

    Yates Confirmed For Potter VI
    posted by Jas, 05/03/07
It's confirmed, David Yates will direct Harry Potter and the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

"I am doing Half-Blood Prince, and I'm doing it because I love the world, I love the characters," the BAFTA-winning director said in an interview. "I think I have more business with this world and these characters." "I've made a kind of tonal shift with the fifth film, which I want to continue and develop into the sixth film," Yates said. "And I can see the fifth story evolving into the sixth story in a really interesting way. So I'm on a journey with this material and this world, and I'm keen to complete it."
