Dan gave tips to Dakota
posted by Jas, 11/30/07
In an interview with The Golden Compass star, Dakota Blue Richards, she talked about the advice she received from Dan.
"They were about the same age as me when they first started making the Harry Potter films," she says. "And meeting them helped a lot. They gave me some good tips, especially Daniel. He said, "Know who your friends are – and listen to your mum." And he said, "Whenever you feel that maybe you are feeling a bit weird and different, ask somebody who will tell you the truth – keep people around you who you know will be honest."
"I think that's very good advice. Emma [Watson], who plays Hermione, was really nice as well – we had a bit of girl bonding."

Potter fans braced for sixth film
posted by Jas, 11/14/07
The trio talk about Half Blood Prince.
Fans are bracing themselves for the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, the next instalment of the Potter blockbuster series. The sixth film is currently being filmed at Leavesden Studios and is scheduled for release in November 2008. The sixth film is currently being filmed at Leavsden Studios and is scheduled for release in November 2008 It reunites director David Yates with the Potter cast who starred in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The tone of The Half Blood Prince is set to be like a romantic comedy, whilst staying faithful to the darker elements.
Emma Watson, who plays Hermione, said: "In this next one there's a lot of emphasis on the relationship between Hermione and Ron and I think this next one will be more comic. "I think the last one was a lot darker and heavier and this one will be funnier and more light-hearted." Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry, added: "In the sixth, I think you get a greater insight into Harry's sense of humour. "I think the sixth generally is a lot funnier than any of the films before. Harry's got quite a dry sense of humour, I have quite a dry sense of humour, so it's quite nice that my character has the same (thing). "There's an incredible darkness to the film as there always is but there is a real lightness to it which balances it out quite nicely."

With filming under way on the sixth Harry Potter film, Newsround can exclusively reveal that actress Helen McCrory will play Narcissa Malfoy. The Potter team have been after her for a while. She was originally cast as Bellatrix Lestrange in the fifth Potter movie, but couldn't play the part because she was expecting a baby. Now she's set to play Draco's mother and Bellatrix Lestrange's sister, who's played by Helena Bonham Carter. Now the two will end up playing sisters in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Other casting includes Jim Broadbent as Professor Horace Slughorn. An announcement on who will play young Tom Riddle and Lavender Brown is expected very soon. Harry Potter and Half-Blood Prince is due to hit cinemas towards the end of 2008.

My Boy Jack reviews
posted by Jas, 11/10/07
Reviews of My Boy Jack from News Scotsman and The Telegraph, the latter also has an interview with Dan about My Boy Jack.
Radcliffe's involvement may have helped to get the film a primetime slot, but he gives an excellent performance as a young man struggling in his father's shadow until, ironically, being sent to command troops in France. Radcliffe's many young fans may freak out at the sight of him smoking, drinking and wearing a dodgy moustache, but it may also bring them to an understanding of the First World War in a way school lessons never could. Full review
Happily, Radcliffe's presence never felt like merely a ploy to increase the ratings – although presumably it won't have done them any harm. For a start, casting a real teenager served as a constantly jolting reminder of just how young First World War soldiers were. (When he sailed for France, Jack still wasn't 18 – and so needed a letter of permission from his dad.) One minute, we saw a boy having a sneaky fag with his sister and moaning about his parents. The next, he was commanding a platoon of 20 Dubliners, most of them older and far more worldly than he was. And through all of this, Radcliffe created an entirely convincing sense of a young man trying unconvincingly not to be scared – and doing his unconvincing best to impersonate a grown-up. Full review
Daniel Radcliffe says watch me die
posted by Jas, 11/10/07
Dan hopes people will be moved after watching My Boy Jack.
"I hope people are moved," Radcliffe said discussing the World War I film. "The thought of forgetting all those people who fought is terrible. We are lucky not to have to endure those conditions now." "It is hard not to feel the parallels with what is happening now in Iraq and Afghanistan," Radcliffe said while discussing the inevitability of comparisons between World War I and current conflicts in the Middle East. "Parents outliving their children is the greatest tragedy imaginable."

Daniel Radcliffe's back in the saddle as he takes Equus to Broadway
posted by Jas, 11/04/07
Dan has agreed to reprise his role in Equus on Broadway in New York next September
Daniel Radcliffe has agreed to create some theatre wizardry on Broadway, while his close friend Laura O'Toole will tread the boards in England. Daniel and Richard Griffiths will open in Equus in New York next September.
For Daniel it's the fulfilment of a dream he did not think possible.
"I dare not think about going to New York, because it might never happen. If it comes off it will be brilliant," the young actor told me when we talked during his run in the Peter Shaffer play, which packed the Gielgud earlier this year.
Laura O'Toole met Daniel when she understudied the part of groom Jill. She got to play the part just once, appearing in a naked love scene with Daniel. She and Daniel are said to have become the closest of friends since they shared that intimate stage moment.
Ms O'Toole will now play Jill opposite Alfie Allen when Equus tours the UK, starting at the Chichester Festival Theatre on January 31. Meanwhile, back with the Broadway-bound Equus, it took months of negotiations to secure a deal with the theatre-owning Shubert Organisation and for the producers David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers to sort out all the paperwork for the play's two leading men to perform in New York.
Director Thea Sharrock will begin rehearsals next August.
"We're delighted that New York is now going to witness Richard and Daniel's extraordinary performances," Mr Pugh told me. Both have special status with the American actors union Equity because of their international reputations, Griffiths through stage work including the Tony award he won for The History Boys and Daniel due to his performances as JK Rowling's adolescent hero Harry Potter. The play, as readers of this page well know, is about a teenage boy who blinds six horses and how a psychiatrist explores why. Although there will be a rush to buy tickets to see Daniel and Griffiths act, there will be those who will just want to see him with his kit off.
But Radcliffe came into his own as an actor on stage, a fact acknowledged by the London Evening Standard's drama award judging panel including him in its best actor nominees long list. Daniel's now filming Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince and will most likely shoot the final Potter, Deathly Hallows, in 2010. He can be seen portraying Jack Kipling in the ITV movie My Boy Jack on November 11. I like him because he decided to put being an actor first, rather than play at being a star.
